Pedestrian killed in California pickup truck collision

Drivers in California can expect to encounter not only cars, trucks, buses and pedestrians on the road, but from time to time, tankers, golf carts and horses will be on the road in front of them. Such encounters can cause unexpected hazards for drivers even if they are paying close attention.  The exercise of extra care is needed to keep the roads around them safe. This includes paying full attention to the road and avoiding cellphones and other distractions. It also means proper maintenance of headlights, windshield and windshield wipers that allow a clear view of the vehicle or pedestrian in front of you. Multi-lane roads, including interstate freeways and high-traffic state roads, also present the danger of lane change related auto accidents.

In one recent car accident case, poor lighting caused a fatality on the roads in Stockton, when a pedestrian was hit by a pickup truck. The California Highway Patrol reported that the incident occurred just before 9 p.m., when the woman was walking on the edge of the second lane of a road. The pickup truck, driven by a 51-year-old Lodi man, knocked her into the first lane, where she was hit by several other vehicles.

Dusk and nighttime present an increased risk for accidents. If you or a loved one was a pedestrian struck by a vehicle, compensation for medical expenses and lost wages may be the possible result of a settlement or civil action against the at-fault driver. If that is the case, an experienced, caring personal injury attorney can help you seek the compensation to which you or your loved one is entitled
