Woman killed by drunk truck driver in Sonoma County

Anyone on the roads in California can see immediately the importance of rules, laws and norms for drivers of cars, trucks and heavy vehicles like buses and construction vehicles. From signaling turns to passing on the left, every bit of wisdom helps us avoid disaster every day.

The avoidance of driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol is one of the most important and well-known laws for the road. The chance of serious injury, permanent disability or death as a result of a motor vehicle accident goes up with the involvement of drugs and alcohol.

A Santa Rosa man is being held by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) as he recovers in the hospital, along with a 7-year-old fighting for her life after a car crash involving the man’s truck. He is suspected of being drunk when he crossed into the opposite lane of a road and hit a car head-on.

The girl’s 27-year-old mother was killed in the accident, which is under investigation by the CHP and the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office. Rescuers had to give CPR to give the child a chance at survival. Some said the woman was driving her child to school when she died.

Victims of truck accidents and other motor vehicle collisions may be able to claim financial damages from the party at fault. This holds true when the driver at fault may also be subject to criminal charges. An attorney can help identify your options for restitution.
