Driver killed in big-rig collision on Interstate 880

California’s economy depends on reliable transport, and much of this transport is provided by trucks. From long-haul tractor-trailer trucks to delivery vans, much of the foodstuffs, clothes and consumer products that Californians require are brought to them by trucks.

The speed and bulk of trucks, especially while fully loaded on interstate highways and other high speed-limit roads, can cause potential dangers to drivers, passengers and pedestrians alike. Collisions and other accidents are rare, but they can cause serious injury, permanent disability or death when they happen.

A tractor-trailer colliding with a car in Oakland caused the death of an off-duty delivery worker in a recent accident. The truck plowed into the car being driven by the victim, who died despite the efforts of the California Highway Patrol and local firefighters and paramedics to save his life.

The driver of the tractor-trailer stayed on the scene and cooperated with law enforcement and emergency services. The 24-year-old victim was later identified by the Alameda County Coroner’s office.

Victims of motor vehicle accidents in which one or more other parties are deemed to be at fault may seek financial damages which include reimbursement for medical expenses and lost wages, as well as compensation for pain and suffering and emotional distress. This is also true for the survivors of those killed in such accidents.

A legal representative can be helpful in the attempt to be made whole through financial restitution. An experienced lawyer can help victims and their families determine the best path forward to a successful settlement, lawsuit or other civil action.
