Woman arrested in California after alleged DUI death

Driving is nearly a necessity for millions of Californians, especially those who live or work far from mass transit options in Los Angeles, San Francisco and the state’s other major cities. Operating a motor vehicle brings many responsibilities, such as committing to not being distracted behind the wheel or using a cellphone while driving.

One of the most important rules to driving is to not mix drug or alcohol use with getting on the roads. The punishment for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is severe because impaired drivers can cause serious damage, as well as injury and death, before they can prevent tragic accidents.

A 58-year-old driver was arrested in California after causing a fatal accident on the Pacific Highway in Oregon. She was reportedly driving with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) three times the legal limit when she struck another car, which hit a 36-year-old pedestrian on his way to the store. The victim was transported to the hospital but died the next day.

The woman was charged with first-degree manslaughter, driving under the influence of intoxicants, third-degree assault, reckless endangering, reckless driving and second-degree criminal mischief. She failed to appear for her arraignment and was arrested in the Golden State before pleading not guilty to the charges.

The victim’s fiancee is raising money online to benefit their newborn child. In the case of a fatal DUI accident, an attorney may help the survivors of a victim claim financial damages to help them get on with their lives without a loved one after such a tragic loss.
