Hayward driver under arrest after allegedly injuring a pedestrian

Although the roads of California are generally safe for drivers and pedestrians, accidents occasionally happen. One of the leading factors in collisions in which one driver was at fault is excessive speed. When an accident happens, it is important to remain at the scene to ensure people are not injured and law enforcement can resolve the incident.

A Hayward man is facing charges after he was involved in a crash with multiple vehicles that seriously injured a pedestrian in Union City. The 50-year-old driver was caught and placed under arrest after he reportedly ran from the scene of the accident.

The suspect’s car was moving above the speed limit, according to eyewitnesses of the crash, when it hit another car and the driver lost control. He then crashed into three parked cars, shoving one into a 65-year-old man from Fremont who was on a nearby sidewalk.

Union City Police Department officers detained the driver a short distance from the crash site and arrested him on suspicion of a felony hit-and-run crash. He was also charged with drug violations, although it is not currently known if the man was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident.

Pedestrians injured in motor vehicle accidents have the right under California law to sue the parties at fault for financial damages, including reimbursement for actual related expenses as well as compensation for pain and other noneconomic damages. An attorney may help victims and their families determine the best legal path to concluding a painful and damaging episode of life involving an errant driver.
