Revealing the top reason for truck accidents

Truck accidents are devastating. Cars get run off of the road, sandwiched between multiple trucks and hit at intersections. People suffer serious injuries and many lose their lives. In a lot of these cases, the truck drivers themselves are fine, protected by the sheer size of their vehicles, and it’s others who suffer the most.

There are a lot of reasons for truck accidents, from distraction to drunk driving to excessive speed. But one study claims to have found the No. 1 reason: Fatigue.

In some cases, drivers actually fell asleep behind the wheel. In other cases, they became distracted by their fatigue or they made clear errors that they could have avoided if they were more alert and aware.

It’s not hard to see why drivers get so tired. Many are overworked, trying to make as much money as they can and getting paid by the mile. They often have stressful schedules, driving through the night to try to find empty roads. In some cases, the companies they work for give them unrealistic schedules. They have deadlines to hit.

We’ve all been tired behind the wheel, but most people have more control over it. They can stop and take a nap if need be. A truck driver has to get to his or her destination on time, so there’s no other option. Even a dangerously tired driver may simply keep on going.

Have you been injured in an accident caused by a fatigued driver? If so, make sure you know how to seek compensation for your injuries, pain and suffering, medical bills, lost wages and more.
