Do I have to go to the doctor after my accident?

When an accident feels minor, it can be easy to just want to settle with your insurance and put it behind you. Many people downplay and don’t seek the medical attention that they need to get full compensation.

I’m just a little sore. Do I really have to go to the doctor?

You should always go to the doctor after an accident, even if you feel fine or are sure that your soreness will go away within a couple of days. Pain and aches, though they may feel minimal, can be a symptom of larger problems and some symptoms are delayed and don’t show up until days or weeks after the accident.

Don’t brush off an accident and say that you’re fine. There is a possibility that larger issues could be underlying, so always see your physician before settling with insurance companies.

Can’t I just go to my chiropractor/acupuncturist/etc.?

While a chiropractor or acupuncturist are great to visit when you simply need an adjustment or pain relief, they shouldn’t be your first line of defense after an accident. In incidents that involve legal action, like asking for compensation after a car accident, you need a diagnosis from a medical doctor. They may then recommend that you visit a complementary or alternative medicine provider.

If you don’t seek proper medical attention, you may not be able to get full compensation for your pain and injuries. Always seek the advice of your attorney and an MD before settling.
