In the aftermath of a motor vehicle accident, victims experience not only physical pain but also a sense of uncertainty. Negligent acts have left them with injuries that require immediate medical attention. As they begin to recover from the injuries, financial issues become the priority. While they may have insurance coverage, they wonder if their policy will cover all expenses.
MedPay may be an option for additional coverage
Medical payments coverage – also known as MedPay – is an option for policyholders that provides an additional level of coverage for expenses following an accident, regardless of the individual responsible. MedPay provides coverage even if you are traveling outside California, whether you are taking a walk, riding a bike, taking public transportation, or traveling in someone else’s car.
MedPay specifically covers costs that include the following:
- Ambulance costs, including EMT services
- Hospitalization
- Physician appointments
- Surgeries
- X-rays
- Nursing services
- Dentist fees
- Funeral expenses
Claims can be disbursed by a direct reimbursement for policyholders who proactively pay their medical bills. Deductibles and copays do not apply. Some policyholders throughout the country can add MedPay to their existing policy, but not in California. In those “secondary coverage” scenarios, health insurance could cover a significant amount of the outstanding costs.
As a rule, limits on claims following an accident are, for the most part, low due to the specific coverage of only medical and funeral bills. However, it can still provide peace of mind should an inattentive or impaired driver cause injuries from a motor vehicle accident.
